Open letter to Amnesty supporters

Open letter to Amnesty supporters

I know that as an Amnesty International supporter, you oppose all human rights abuse - whether it’s committed by terrorists or committed by the state.

And you are not alone. The vast majority of humanity deplore acts of terrorism and recognise the right of all nations to defend themselves. At the same time, more and more people are equally horrified by the international erosion of civil liberties and the corresponding rise in torture and abuse. Like you and me, they recognise that far from making the world a safer place, the policies of the ‘war on terror’ are spreading fear, hatred and division.

That’s why we are expanding our campaign to mobilise supporters worldwide. By bringing our voices together, we can let governments know that we did not sign up to a world governed by fear and discrimination. We did not sign up to secret detention, torture and rendition. We did not sign up. We do not approve. We Unsubscribe.

We want all Amnesty supporters to unite against human rights abuse in the ‘war on terror’.

Our campaign extends right across the world. But we’re asking UK supporters to really make their voices heard here at home. During these critical months we are going to be putting a lot of pressure on the UK government. This site has been designed to make it easier for you to spread the word.

It's up to you.

Kate Allen, Amnesty International
