Stuff of Life
What you have just witnessed is called waterboarding. The US authorities call it an 'enhanced interrogation technique'. They say it is a necessary and acceptable 'tool' in the war on terror. They say it is 'safe and lawful'. They say that by using it, they are not doing anything inhumane.
Well you've just seen it for yourself. What do you think?
At Amnesty International we're in no doubt that waterboarding is torture. As such it is illegal. And it must stop.
If you agree, join us.
Amnesty is the world's most influential human rights organisation. We get listened to. And we make things happen. Bisher al-Rawi, who was released from Guantanamo Bay after being held for four years without charge or trial, put it this way:
'Amnesty International and its good work throughout the world is a blooming flower of hope. I sincerely believe that without Amnesty's immediate intervention in our case…we probably would have been goners. I am delighted to be back home in England with my family. My nightmare is finally at an end.'
The more members we have, the more influence we have. The more influence we have, the more of that 'good work' we can do. It really is as simple as that.
